There are single cactus scattered in that area but it’s not pretty, mostly just deserted brain land.

If you arrive there with the Jeep from Real de Cartoce, the first thing the driver shows you is the Peyote (only for photo) just before reaching Estacion Cartoce, so I guess if you look for it there you can find it by yourself without paying for any tours, and there is cheap place to stay in that town too. By the way, Peyotes are so cute, like little babies, but very bitter, but, I don’t know why people had to chew it anyway, just take a little piece, drink something and swallow.

He does not stay there over night with you, it’s not a ceremony, but he will show you how to do it.

The owner drives tourists to where Peyote is with a cost, as the ones around the town had mostly been picked, and you can stay there for the night with his camping equipment or come back on the same day. The rooms are pretty good, and it’s not expensive, and it has kitchen too.

The place you can do in is in Wadley, despite some locals may tell you there is no place to stay there, there are two, the one with a red door on the same side of the railway actually has people staying there from different countries, some even stayed for months and years. If you want to take Peyote, you will be surprised that the tourist information people will tell you it’s not legal, but many tourists do it anyway. That’s how you can legally sit on the top of the Jeep and ride down the valley with cliff on one side, which is very awesome. But you can visit there from Real de Cartoce by taking a day trip or one way drop off. But, that one is really not in a good condition, you can try another one called Rxxl de Axxxxs (same name as the mission in San Antonio but with s).Īs you can see from the map, you can visit Estacion Catorce and Wadley without going to Real de Cartoce, there are buses and collectivos.

If you’re looking for budget accommodation they will tell you Sxn Jxxn next to the plaza (tripadvisor doesn’t allow advertising, I’m not trying to, so I don’t put the full name). The town of Real de Catorce itself has no cactus on the surrounding mountains at all, and it’s very touristy. I literally smiled as the bus was driving there, after visiting Mexico 4 times and seeing many other cities and towns, it was like the first time I ever saw the real Mexico, like how it looked in those classic movies. But anyway, similar views can be seen on the way to town, just before the bus drop you at the tunnel there is another town with totally rustic run down stone houses with many cactus around, and it has budget places to stay also. First, I’m surprised to see some of the places other people had posted in their photos that I didn’t see when I was there, I guess they took tours to actually go out of the town.
